In 2017 I travelled to Ireland as a recipient of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship. I had never been there before and for me ‘Ireland’ had always existed as a literary figment. This work, therefore, came about as a way of reconciling the real life in the village on the edge of the Atlantic with the vastness of literature about Ireland. Gradually, my work became contained by my walks to and from the studio. The artworks here are a record of those walks, as well as the reading done in Ireland.
