Held during the darkest part of the Aussie winter, Heatwave is an ode to summer; long days, hot nights.
Fourteen artists respond to the heatwave theme through painting, print making, ceramics, drawing, glass, photography and sculpture.
You may think that climate change would be the main focus of this exhibition, with its catastrophic weather events, rising seas and monstrous bushfires, however some artists, although fully cognisant of the gravity of these events, have taken a nostalgic view of heatwave. They think back to their childhood and remember the chilled Tupperware jug of iced water, fans and wet towels, playing under the sprinkler, seemingly endless beach holidays, and watching cricket on tv with the rattling box air conditioner competing for attention in the background.
