Margie Sheppard is a South Australian artist who lives and works in the Adelaide Hills. Her practice spans 30 years, during which time she has spent lengthy periods working almost exclusively as a printmaker. She is well known for her large densely coloured etchings, and currently divides her time between painting and printmaking.
More recently Margie's images have evolved from symbolic figurative imagery to an investigation of elemental forms. This transition leaves behind the figuration and narrative elements but maintains the stillness and dreamlike qualities of her previous work. The new symbolic material is uncompromising in its abstraction, and the meaning of the picture now comes from the large colourful shapes, the earthy surfaces and the physical and emotional effect of these elements.
