As with my previous work, my current drawings follow my continued interest in urban landscapes. My pastels document sites which have been important in my life, beginning with my early Broken Hill drawings. l have been able to visit many places, particularly South East Asia. I may be moved by an emotional response or stimulated by the visual ingredients I can explore in both ordinary and extra ordinary.
‘Place’ is important to me, but in equal measure with the formal qualities comprising the drawing. I aim to work with the design elements of the image, allowing intimate representation in conjunction with the emotional significance the place has for me. It is the urban that grabs me. The way people live.

In 2017 I travelled to Ireland as a recipient of the Ballinglen Arts Foundation Fellowship. I had never been there before and for me ‘Ireland’ had always existed as a literary figment. This work, therefore, came about as a way of reconciling the real life in the village on the edge of the Atlantic with the vastness of literature about Ireland. Gradually, my work became contained by my walks to and from the studio. The artworks here are a record of those walks, as well as the reading done in Ireland.

India is a country whose unique beauty and culture keeps drawing me back time after time. The colour, pattern and beauty of the festivals, temples, palaces, cities and villages of Rajasthan have been a constant source of inspiration . I am enthralled by this amazing country and have travelled there almost every year over the past 10 years.

My work in Commorancy stems from my residencies in Fabriano, Italy. Fabriano was one of the earliest places in Europe to make high-quality paper on an industrial scale, starting in the 13th century, and the town still has a reputation for fine watermarked paper. This led to Fabriano's prosperity in the Late Middle Ages and the Renaissance. It is a walled city that now in the 21 century has a greater suburban and industrial expanse. My residencies have taken place in the Museo della Carta e della Filligrano – Museum of Paper and Watermarks in Fabriano.
My work is inspired by the architecture within the 13th-century walled city especially the grotesque architectural ornaments, metal door knockers which were hand made by black smiths and by animal imagery in historic frescoes and early majolica ceramics. The paper is handmade by myself in Fabriano and back in Australia. The botanical nature prints are an ongoing project in which I have printed weeds found in Fabriano from the seasons of my residency and then on return to Australia printed the Australian weed equivalent, I have completed winter and Spring and hope to complete summer and Autumn on further residencies.
